Hi! I'm Ashley Brown, the photographer behind Shining Light Photography. I am a Kentucky-based film & digital photographer with a huge heart for travel and spontaneity. I'm recently married to my high school sweetheart and life is wonderful!
I truly believe as a photographer I have been given one of the most amazing blessings in life: to be able to go out into the world and have eyes that instinctively search for the unique beauty hiding within it.
Over the years my favorite thing I have learned through this job is that while everyone is different, every single person has something amazing about them and I love bringing that out of you and into your photos.
"Let your light shine before men, so they may see your good deeds and glorify your father in Heaven."
SWEET PUPPY PAWS
These Paws! Oh, how I adore my sweet labradoodles, Cooper & Beaux. While they're both "gentle giants", Cooper is definitely the more mellow of the two, which is why only his paws are pictured. Beaux was probably off chasing the rabbit family we have in our backyard.
My favorite food: seedless watermelon! Happily devouring 1-2 per week between the months of June-September.
Hot coffee, iced coffee, coffee shops, coffee ice cream (Graeter's Mocha Chocolate Chip to be specific), coffee candles in the kitchen, coffee beans covered in dark chocolate; I could go on, but you get the picture: I LOVE COFFEE.
This right here is where my business was born! A little over 5 years ago, this verse jumped off of the page and into my heart, accompanied with that still, small voice that basically said: start a business, call it this, GO! Now with almost 100 weddings, countless engagement & lifestyle sessions under my belt, here we are! My faith is such a vital part of the way I run my business and it is the soul foundation of everything in my life!
I'm happily married as of September 10, 2016 to my high school sweetheart, Zac! We laugh every day, plan on seeing the world together, and can be found in the center of any good dance floor- maybe dancing together, but probably just battling against each other's moves.
P.S. Brides who fear a rainy wedding day forecast: We literally had a giant tree fall on the middle of our ceremony after my dad passed me off, and we all made it through with smiles on our faces & rings on our hands. We however, also made it on national TV and a European gossip tabloid, but hey! We are married and all is well! HAHA (pretty photo of the aftermath by Nina & Wes Photography)
My passport is always ready! Shooting destination weddings is truly my favorite and taps into another big passion of mine: travel! Ask about my destination pricing guide if you're considering thinking outside of the boundary lines of your state! In addition to my sweet, Kentucky bride & grooms, I've also photographed couples in West Virginia, the Carolina's, Georgia, Florida, Texas, New York, Virginia, The Bahamas, Mexico, Ireland, and Italy
THE SLOW ART OF FILM
What started as a hobby to train my mind to slow down, and break the habit of being "trigger happy" on my digital camera; I found my love of film photography. I feel like this aspect of my business is what maybe drew you into my images without even realizing it. Film has a timeless look that simply cannot be fully replicated digitally. It has made me into a better photographer, capturing moments and memories that you'll truly appreciate.
I'm a sucker for an Anthropologie or Madewell store. My closet loves them, my wallet gets bitter. Still considering client payments in the form of gift cards, but my husband doesn't agree.
I struggle with sitting still, so last year I decided to pick up a job at lululemon in my off season. I fell in love with the company and the sweet team here in Lexington, so I decided to stay! Thankfully they respect the craziness of my busy schedule and while I may be in the store some, I also work as a photographer for the company's Ambassadors as well as for some of their events.
