Hi there! We are Ashley & Zac Brown, the photographers behind Shining Light Photography. We are Kentucky-based film & digital photographers with a huge heart for travel and spontaneity. We are recently married ourselves and understand first hand, the importance of finding the perfect photographers to not only capture your day beautifully, but keep you smiling and feeling at peace!
We truly believe as photographers, we have been given one of the most amazing blessings in life: to be able to go out into the world and have eyes that instinctively search for the unique beauty hiding within it.
Over the years our favorite thing we have learned through this job is that while everyone is different, every single person has something amazing about them and we like to think we specialize in bringing that out of you and into your photos.
"Let your light shine before men, so they may see your good deeds and glorify your father in Heaven."
SWEET PUPPY PAWS
These Paws! Oh, how we adore our sweet labradoodles, Cooper & Beaux. While they're both "gentle giants", Cooper is definitely the more mellow of the two, which is why only his paws are pictured. Beaux was probably off chasing the rabbit family we have in our backyard.
My favorite food: seedless watermelon! Happily devouring 1-2 per week between the months of June-September.
Hot coffee, iced coffee, coffee shops, coffee ice cream (Graeter's Mocha Chocolate Chip to be specific), coffee candles in the kitchen, coffee beans covered in dark chocolate; I could go on, but you get the picture: I LOVE COFFEE.
This right here is where my business was born! A little over 5 years ago, this verse jumped off of the page and into my heart, accompanied with that still, small voice that basically said: start a business, call it this, GO! Now with almost 100 weddings, countless engagement & lifestyle sessions under my belt, here we are! My faith is such a vital part of the way I run my business and it is the soul foundation of everything in my life!
I'm happily married as of September 10, 2016 to my high school sweetheart, Zac! We laugh every day, plan on seeing the world together, and can be found in the center of any good dance floor- maybe dancing together, but probably just battling against each other's moves.
P.S. Brides who fear a rainy wedding day forecast: We literally had a giant tree fall on the middle of our ceremony after my dad passed me off, and we all made it through with smiles on our faces & rings on our hands. We however, also made it on national TV and a European gossip tabloid, but hey! We are married and all is well! HAHA (pretty photo of the aftermath by Nina & Wes Photography)
Our passport is always ready! Shooting destination weddings is truly our favorite and taps into another big passion of ours: travel!
In addition to our sweet, Kentucky bride & grooms, We've also photographed couples in over 15 states, as well as Paris, Italy, The Bahamas, Mexico, and Ireland.
THE SLOW ART OF FILM
What started as a hobby to train my mind to slow down, and break the habit of being "trigger happy" on my digital camera; I found my love of film photography. I feel like this aspect of my business is what maybe drew you into my images without even realizing it. Film has a timeless look that simply cannot be fully replicated digitally. It has made me into a better photographer, capturing moments and memories that you'll truly appreciate.
I'm a sucker for Anthropologie & Madewell. My closet loves them - my wallet (& husband) love them less. I'm still considering client payments in the form of gift cards, but Zac disagrees.
I photograph the local brand ambassadors in Lexington, KY for one of my favorite companies, lululemon!
I own too many pairs of these stretchy pants... ;)
